It’s the night of your sleep study.  Hopefully, you have followed the directions in your patient packet so that they don’t interfere with the sleep study results.  For example, alcohol or caffeine can interfere with your sleep study and should be avoided.

Pack a small bag with your pajamas, toothbrush and any other items you will need the next morning.  Many patients like to bring their own pillow for better sleep.  Our faculty is equipped with a rest room and shower room so you can prepare for your morning after the sleep study.

How long does it take to get a sleep study appointment?
A patient can get an appointment for a sleep study within four to five days

How long should will my sleep study take?

A patient should expect to be in the lab for approximately 8 hours.  Departure time from the lab is promptly at 5:30 a.m.  If you need transportation, please arrange to have someone to pick you up at 5:30 a.m.

After the sleep study, how long does it take to get the report back?
A report will be sent the referring physician’s office within three to four business days.

Do all patients that complain about a sleeping problem need a sleep study?
Not all patients need a sleep study. Some sleeping issues are due to a need for a behavior modification. A consult with Dr. Sharmeela Kuperan or Dr. Pranathi Kondapaneni would determine whether or not the patient needs a sleep study.

As your doctors tired his or her very best to explain what a sleep study involves, you may have become confused or nervous.  It is normal to feel this way.  Here at Rest Assured Sleep Centers, our trained technicians are here to make your experience as calming as possible.

Once shown your room, the technician will allow you to get yourself ready for sleep.  Once you are ready, the technician will go ahead and begin placing a series of EEG leads on your scalp, face, and legs.  There are two EKG leads that will be placed on your chest to monitor cardiac activity.

The technician will be recording your sleep for the next 6 hours.  This information is then interpreted by one of our sleep specialist and drafted in a report, which is then sent to your physician.  You might be thinking that this process will be make it near impossible to sleep, but rest assured that you will wake up in the morning from the best night’s sleep you have had in years.
